Paradise Lost-by Jon Mertz

Her opium thighs
Her lips and eyes
Her mercury breast rose and fell
Between her legs a sculpture of love
Slow passion spirals upward
A mating dance
A holy rite in my room
Sexual euphoria
A symphony of skin and broken windows
Love undreamed of
Pagan desire
Terrible angry love on fire
Mindless passions rend
The dynamics of desire...depression...frenzy...
To live on the edge
This flawed goddess
Dark leather angel falling
Out there in a trance
In the name of some strange prescription drug
My dream staggering on violent fields
No fear: We'd never die
We live in a magnificent nightmare in the city of her madness
Our heart and soul are boiling/shrinking/changing...
They threaten to bust apart

Aspects of rhythmic tension
Objects of derelict grace
My bone engines shatter
In her anesthetized embrace

We explore the emotional depths
It's not all black and white
My dream has chosen to evaporate
The hour for being saved has rushed past
Someday never comes
Present and past absolved in death
A vision of stoned angels
They circle around her where one world ends
In a terrifying apparition of upheaval
Things come to an end.

I don't accept this.
I don't accept this abrupt end.

I don't accept this paradise lost.
